Knowledge Test (Written Test)

The knowledge test, also called the written test, is a 40 question, multiple choice test that covers the fundamentals of driving. To pass, one must score 80% or higher. Most people take between 20-40 minutes to take the test. No need to make an appointment, just walk in and take the knowledge test in our office during our normal business hours: Our Hours.

STepS to Take Knowledge Test

1. (Required) Have or Get a Washington State ID#

   • Get an WA ID# by using the DOL’s “Pre-apply” option online at - https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/preapply.html

2. (Recommended) Study the driver guide which is available in multiple languages:

   • Hard copy available at the DOL’s offices - https://fortress.wa.gov/dol/dolprod/dsdoffices/

3. (Recommended) Take the 5 question practice test available in English or Spanish:

4. Come to ADS and take your test. Make sure you bring:

   • (Option 1) Birth Certificate AND Social Security Card AND Washington State ID #

   • (Option 2) Washington State ID
